The Line-Up and Hitting Tips

07.30.11

Every baseball player has a spot on the line-up and the coach carefully decides how to fill those spots. They usually choose the order that will most likely help their team win games. No matter where you are in the line-up, you are valuable and there are hitting tips that can help you.

Each player has a unique strength and skill. Some are fast, others hit hard and some are good at hitting certain pitches. These skills determine where you will fit in the batting order. Let’s talk about each skill and where you should be placed.

Those players who are fast runners should typically fill the first, second or ninth slots. Those who are the strongest and hit the hardest are normally in the middle of the line-up. And those who are patient hitters are usually assigned the second or eighth positions. If you feel that you excel in one of these areas but you are in the recommended slot, talk to your coach to see why he has you where he does. It’s possible you could change to another spot on the line-up.

Your skills should be used to their full potential. It is possible that your coach has put you in the wrong batting order and if you are moved your team could play better. That’s why it’s important to talk to you coach. Then again, he may see a potential in you that you’re not aware of and that is why he has you where you are.

If you desire to be in another spot, work hard in the necessary areas. Again, talk to your coach to see what it will take to move up in the line-up. Be confident that you can reach any goal you have in baseball.

Be realistic too though. Some guys are just naturally better and stealing bases, bunting or walking. Even if you improve in certain areas, there may still be other players on your team who are better in certain areas. Be the best you can be and be happy with the skills you have.
