The basic style of swimming, which doesn’t involve any strokes is known as freestyle swimming or the front crawl. It is unregulated and is commonly used in competitions, as it is the fastest way of swimming. Most people who know basic swimming are known to practice this style to keep themselves floating on the water. There is a proper technique which is followed, by making the right kind of arm and leg movements, as well as breathing in a certain manner. The position of the head and the body have to be in the desired postures to make the body coordinate with the movements along with breathing. The front crawl or freestyle swimming is the easiest as well as the fastest way of doing the above mentioned movements all together. To learn this high intensity activity, there are proper swimming techniques which have to be followed, so read to find out what this technique is.

The Front Crawl Technique is hugely important especially when you consider this stroke is easily the fastest swimming stroke, and thus typically the only stroke used in Freestyle swimming events. This stroke is also one of the three initial strokes swimmers are taught (Breaststroke, Front Crawl and Backstroke).
Front Crawl Technique
An Ideal Front-crawl can be broken up into three parts:
* The Body – Your body shouldn’t float too high or too low, position your lower back just below the surface of the water.
* The Head – Don’t let your head angle, ideal placement is to have your face in the water but your head out of the water, no lower, no higher.
* The Arms – Your hands should enter the water flat with your fingers closed to maximize arm power.
You should really get an ideal form in your mind of how the swimming stroke should look and visualize this when swimming to maximize your technique this will help you as you swim as well as mentally prepare.
Use A Coach
Learning perfect technique can only really be done with the use of a quality coach, if you’re looking for a quality coach (you can take with you anywhere!) we highly recommend National Swim Coach (see the links for more information).
The Benefits Of This Stroke
This stroke really stands out for its fantastic speed and power, with most of the effort being provided through the leg power (unlike the breaststroke) so you may find your thighs hurting the next day! Swimming Front-crawl requires more effort than the Breaststroke and allows you to swim further in less time, its preferred as a stroke for fitness since it requires much more energy and leaves swimmers really feeling they’ve had a workout! Please note during longer races swimmers typically don’t really optimize the kick power until later within the race (conserving power and energy). Read the rest of this entry »
